What's new on the Akira Home Page

28th June, 1999
Moving day! The whole site has moved to http://www.lool.net/Akira now. Beside that, not much has changed, except the slightly altered directory structure.

23rd November, 1998
Very bad news today. The account, where many pictures were stored has apparently been canceled without a beforehand warning so the files couldn't be protected first. I'm very sorry but the files are lost forever now. The links have been removed.

27th October, 1997
The Akira Club info page which is linked to from here is apparently gone. As a substitution Taro has put an own small page online instead. Well, it's not much information but better than nothing. There will be a bit more somewhat later.

6th October, 1997
We lost another disk space resource. So many files had to move again. Fortunately nothing was lost this time either. Everything should work as it had before. If some links are broken, leave a message.

15th May, 1997
You must fear no more. The old pictures won't be deleted anymore. Instead, they have been moved onto the other account Taro has.

2nd May, 1997
The maintainer of the anime archive at FTP.TCP.COM has announced that he will stop his service on 22nd May, 1997. Needless to say that the Akira related directories will also vanish. For now there is a local copy of the two directories available here at the AKIRA Home Page. However it is on another account. Please tell if you have trouble downloading from there. If it doesn't work, we still need a volunteer who (happily?) makes an own local copy of the Akira directories.

14th March, 1997
The AKIRA Home Page has joined the Akira Ring of Destruction. I'm not so sure how big this will get but it should be a nice device for you fans of mine (^_^) discovering more Akira related pages. The webring is very small at the moment. This site was the third when it joined. Have fun!

25th February, 1997
Argh, the admins have decided to not let the public have the statistics. I'm very sorry for that but I can't do much against it. So all you currently have are the old statistics of the last years.

25th January, 1997
The update of the picture archive is now in progress. Many local pictures have been replaced by links to the Venice FTP archive. The second measure taken to get some more disk space will be the removal of some of the stills from the anime which are not that good. But don't despair. There will be more pictures, mainly from the manga. If you want to know how the new pictures will be like, visit the archive. Two new pictures are already there.

Something completely different: You may have noticed that the access statistics have not been updated for several weeks now. That is because the files are now cached at an web-server of the admins. The stats link now leads to a global statistics page for all Taro's files not just for the Akira Home Page. It's a daily statistic.

14th November, 1996
In case you're wondering about the star on the top of the page, this just leads to a navigation page allowing you to browse the Akira Home Page and Taro's other pages quickly.

1st June, 1996
Taro has received that Top %5 award by Point Communications pretty a while ago but didn't put the badge on the page for unknown reasons. Now, that the AKIRA Home Page has been "awarded" a second time, he seems to become more courageous: There's now an extra page for the awards. You should decide by yourself if it's worth them or not. In fact, those awards are not at all a satisfacory proof that this site is indeed good or fits your taste. ^_^

9th February, 1996
From now on when a subsection of my Home Page is being updated or if there is a new one the link will be marked with a capsule to indicate that there's new "stuff" there. The indicator vanishes after a period of one week. So I'll only announce new subsections or general changes but not the little alterations or additions which occur sometimes. Hope this is of any help to you.

29th January, 1996
Just another update: A minor addition has been made in the Akira-FAQ concerning the Marvel delay topic. I won't announce any further updates of the FAQ. You can always check the version number to find out if you should download the actual version. The "stuff" page has changed a bit, too. It's split into two categories: Akira related files and sites. So far there are only two sites. You probably know Venice already.

22nd January, 1996
The new version (1.06) of the Akira-FAQ is now online. That means 6 small changes have been made. You can look up all changes in the new history section of the FAQ. And I also wish to thank all people who helped Taro with the update.
Happy reading!

2nd January, 1996
Ok, back to work now. The new year has begun and the access statistics page now logs 1996 (Happy new year BTW). I've decided to put my first message on the page again to introduce people new to my Home Page. If you missed my last message because you were on a vacation, here are the news: The Akira-FAQ is finally finished and a new Mod is there, too.

22th December, 1995
Merry Christmas to all of you!

I know, I'm a bit early but the home page can't be updated on weekends. So here I am giving you the long-awaited Akira-FAQ as a christmas present. I know this should have been online for a couple of months now but that lamer Taro took so long to finish it giving some miserable excuses like "My studies take so much time". So I kicked him and astonishingly he managed to complete it right before Christmas. You're lucky Taro!
Hmm, I had something else . . (rustle, rustle) . . Ah, here. It's another Akira mod that was posted in alt.binaries.sounds.mods not so long ago. Actually it's the predecessor to the other mod. You can download it at the "stuff" page.
Have a good time during X-mas holiday!

18th December, 1995
- Announcement -
Have you noticed, too? Christmas is approaching. I have already begun to wrap up a christmas present for you but first here's another present from Carlsen to the german Akira fans although it's a bit early:
The last AKIRA book "Freunde für die Ewigkeit" is out NOW. Go get it! It's waiting for you at your local comic shop.

13th November, 1995
The link to the Akira Club Page didn't work the last couple of days. Sorry about that. I've updated it now and it should work. A remark on the access statistics: I've realized that the links to other locations can't be logged. The counts I've put on the page were FAILED *-_-* accesses. So I've removed the "other binaries and sites" section on the stats page.

31th August, 1995
Ok, here's some distribution info:
The new american Akira issue #34 seems to have finally hit the stores. Apparently they took their last chance to fulfill their official release date "August 95" -_^. They're planning to release the next issues monthly so let's see.
The french edition is complete but only in B&W. Glenat's colour edition is dependent from the american issues, too, so I guess the story will be completed soon.
The german distributor Carlsen followed a rather "intelligent(?)" release policy so far. They have been releasing new Akira issues regularly during the long waiting period . . . with a release frequency of a bit more than a year. They're now at issue #18 (american issues #34 + #35). The last volume will probably appear at the release date of american #36 or #37 which will be the last one. Apparently the date will be December.
The Italian distribution follows exactly the American one and will probably continue soon, too. It has stopped exactly as the US edition at issue #34.

28th July, 1995

Sorry, there was a little bug in the stats program so you got wrong data on the "Other binaries" section. The bug is fixed now.

7th July, 1995
There's now an access statistics page which lists number of downloads of the documents and the binary files. Because I'm not allowed to use own cgi-bins on this site (for security reasons), it's gonna be updated unregularly. Hope you can live with that. Stay tuned, I'm going to offer a new service for you in a month or so.
See you later!

20th June, 1995
If you want Akira pictures in printed form, you might be interested in the Akira Club Artbook published by Kodansha. Info on the book can be found on this page by Peter Evans (Sakura Studio, Tokyo). You can email him at peter@gol.com.

8th May, 1995
Another bunch of pictures grabbed from the anime video has just arrived. Thanks to Dietmar Heidrich (s_heidri@iraul1) for grabbing the pics and posting them. They're about the same quality as the other grabbed pics.

13th March, 1995
If you want to know more of the creator of Akira the manga, you can look at the small biography by clicking on the link below. Don't expect too much, though.

4th January, 1995
HOT NEWS !!!!!
The next issue of AKIRA has just come out! The 28th of 29 issues of the german Akira edition hit the stores today (4th January, 1995). Visit your local comic shop now!! And you can witness the beginning of the storie's final climax when Tetsuo once again loses control over his power. Be prepared for non-stop action while Miyako's plan emerges.
At last the story goes on and approaches its end.

23th December, 1994
Merry Christmas to you all on the net!
I was looking for some xmas-presents lately and discovered nice stuff for Akira-fans on various sites. You can read two more (htmlized) reviews on the anime and go to the new "More stuff for Akira addicts" section on this home page: There you can find an Akira demo, a Mod and a Doom2 sound patch wad. I wish you nice christmas holidays (if any) and good luck in the new year.

4th November, 1994
If you want to buy music from the Akira film, go to the Akira entry of Raistlin's (csuos@warwick.ac.uk) Anime CD Guide. I've included an alternative source, too. It shouldn't be too difficult to obtain these Cds; just check out your local music shop.

17th October, 1994
There's a new bunch of pictures available now, which have been lying around at home so far. They're all from Venice but have been renamed. The old names are included in the index, though. Included are samples from the original manga in B&W from the last Akira book. But you don't have to fear spoilers.

6th September, 1994
There's now a small collection (2 pics) of Ascii-Art available. That's not very much, don't you think, too ? We desperetaly need more! Perhaps I should add these:
. me
@ Tetsuo (later in the story)
Uh, I don't think I'm a good ascii-artist, so I'd better stop now. Have fun!

5th October, 1994
The textfiles from Venice are now available here: Two synopses of the anime, and a newspaper article. They've been HTMLized and mininimal corrections have been made (Ever heard of the Crown gang ?). Bye for now.

12th August, 1994
I have also a "messages of the day" function. Whenever the home page is altered, I'll say it to you. Outside of my home page, I rarely speak (you probably know this ^_^), so use this chance!
