The Mod music file format

The Mod file format has been developed on the Amiga. A Mod file consists of a bunch of samples and a playlist. Normally the sounds are sampled in 8 bit with 11 khz. In the playlist is stored, when and with wich frequency they are to be played. Following effects are also possible: Volume Slide, Porta up, Porta down, Glissando, Pattern Loops . . .
There can be 31 different samples, 4 can be played simultaneously.

Mods are very popular because it's possible to implement attractive sounds. There are Mods with more complex specifications, too, for example samples with a higher mixing rate and more channels.
